jay chou and iI am back!!! Spent my vacation at HK past few days and experienced a different kind of living from Singapore. To me going overseas is like escaping from reality. And I think that HK is a good place to go if one needs a mental relief (especially Disneyland). Going to Disneyland equivalents going to a world of fantasy and happily ever after.
Hmm how different is HK? Actually I am quite scared of the shopping culture there (especially at 女人街). As some might have already knew, there is no such thing as finding out the market price in HK. One thing that I have learnt, in HK, only ask for the price if and only if you are interested to buy it, because once you start asking for the price, they will keep bugging you to buy, pulling you to their shop. But the good thing is that they allow you to name the price, which means that the consumer surplus is very high. Back to the dark side again, some will get angry if they think you did not give a good price. Well this is the only way to shake them off if one accidentally land in such a situation.
Not only at 女人街 can you get cheap stuff, another place would be 金沙咀的加连威老道Grandville road, which Jay chou specially mentioned that he wanted to visit in an interview at HK. It’s not hard to find nice tops that are as cheap as S$4, socks at 3 pairs for $1 and jeans at S$10 around that area. :D tan tio. Not wonder HK is referred to as a shopping haven.
Some of the highly recommended food are 鱼蛋面(fish ball noodles) and those 烧鹅烧肉(roasted goose and pork) and the more popular drink there is milk tea. (although I dun really like the taste) Dint dare to try the smelly tofu. Heard that it sucks. The smell is also overbearing. XP
Taxis charges in HK are only worth it if one is taking for a short distance. Long distance will give you a heart attack. The meter price will start at HK$3.00, around S$0.60 for the first dunno how many km. subsequently the meter will jump arnd S$0.30 per 2km. Those that are unlucky like me, the taxi driver made the wrong turn and travel up the highway to dunno where, all the best to your pockets.
Speaking of pockets, HK pick pocketing rates are very high. Very few robbers, because most people attempt pick pocketing. Our tour guide told us at the beginning of the first day that we should always keep a very close lookout to our belongings and that his girlfriend’s handphone was stolen weeks before. But on the second last day, we got a temporary tour guide because his own wallet was stolen and he was stuck at Shenzhen. Poor thing, lost his identity card and S$2000 plus. Best to keep the wallet in a safe compartment in the bag.
Nicest of all should be the night sceneries in HK. Especially during the Christmas seasons, where firms dun mind to spend the extra money to spur up the Christmas feeling. The neon lights along the streets also add vibrancy to the city. But I still dunno how to use the night mode some of the photos turn out to be black black one. It feels that HK is a place that is always buzzing with activities even late into the night. Not like Singapore, where shops start closing around 10pm.
Hope this short sharing come in handy to those that are going to HK. Had been just reminded that I have 36 pages of chem not done. Sianz…
